Use cases

New boat helm install
T 85 is the standard helm for 9-10 m runabouts and walk-arounds — compatible with most engine types via the M66 cable. Drop in for a new helm position or replacement of older steering.
Replacement for worn rotary
Old rotary helms develop slop and sticking. T 85 is a direct replacement for most older 3-cycle rotary helms — same cutout, same cable connection.
Helm console refit
Building a new console? T 85 is the rotary standard. Pair with throttle controls, instrument panel and chartplotter for a complete helm setup.

Installation guide

1
Order matching steering cable
This is the helm only. Order an M66 marine steering cable separately — pick by helm-to-engine distance + engine type. Outboard, inboard, SX-drive have different engine-end fittings.
2
Mount the helm
Standard helm cutout — match the included template to your console. Bolt with the supplied hardware. Helm should be level with the wheel pointing to your normal driving position.
3
Route the cable
Route the M66 cable from helm to engine compartment. Avoid sharp bends (min. 200 mm radius). Run through bulkheads with proper grommets and seal each pass-through.
4
Connect at the engine
Engine end varies by manufacturer. Outboard: bolt to tilt tube. Inboard: clamp at steering tiller. SX: bolt to steering arm. Lubricate with marine grease before connecting.
5
Test full-lock both directions
Wheel turns lock-to-lock should be exactly 3 turns. Steering should feel smooth and self-centring. If sticky or notchy, check cable for kinks or contamination.
