Use cases
Weekend / day-cruising fridge
50 L is the right size for a 2-person crew doing weekends and day-trips. Holds 24 cans + basic groceries, freezes ice and small meat portions. Low current draw means it can run all weekend on house battery + solar without alternator help.
Live-aboard / passage-making
85 L gives you a full week of food for a 4-person crew, or 2 weeks for a couple. Big enough for meal-prep cooking, frozen meat storage, and the small luxuries that make long-passage life civilized.
Replacement for old absorption fridges
Absorption (LPG / 3-way) fridges draw twice the gas of a compressor and cool poorly in warm anchorages. Drop-in replacement: same hole pattern as most older 50 L marine fridges. Compressor cooling = consistent temperatures, no gas use.

Pick capacity by crew size
50 L = weekend cruising for 2–4 (drinks, basics, lunch ingredients). 85 L = week-long cruising for 4–6 or live-aboard couple (full week's food + freezer space). When in doubt, size up — running cost is minimal vs the misery of food shopping every 2 days.

Decide on flush-mount or freestanding
Freestanding: fridge sits in a galley locker on its feet — no extra parts needed. Flush-mount: order the matching frame (50.961.30 for 50L, 50.961.32 for 85L) for a finished install with no visible edges. Most refit projects benefit from the frame.

Plan ventilation
Compressor fridges need air flow at the back and sides — 50 mm gap minimum. Ventilation slots in the cabinet front and back. Without ventilation the compressor over-heats, draws more current, and dies in 1–2 seasons.

Wire to the house battery
Run dedicated wires from the house battery: 6 mm² for 12V circuits, 4 mm² for 24V (max 5 m run). 15A fuse at the battery. Always wire negative directly to the negative bus — not the engine block.

Mount and seal
Slide the fridge into the cabinet (or the frame, if installed). Secure with the included brackets. Apply marine sealant around the frame edges to prevent water/condensation ingress. Don't fasten through the fridge body — only through the frame or the supplied brackets.

Cool down before first use
Run empty for 4–6 hours to pull down to operating temperature. Set 4°C for fridge, –12°C for freezer. Load with already-cold food — never load room-temperature drinks (causes 24h of overload run).
