Installation guide

1
Verify shaft compatibility
The Apollo uses a universal tapered cone that fits 3/4″ (19 mm) standard helm shafts on most mechanical and hydraulic steering systems. Check your existing wheel's mounting — it should match before ordering.
2
Remove the old wheel
Remove the centre cap, undo the locking nut and washer, then slide the old wheel off the shaft. Use a wheel puller if it is stuck — never hammer the shaft.
3
Clean and inspect the shaft
Wipe the tapered shaft with a clean cloth. Inspect for corrosion or wear — replace key, nut and washer if degraded.
4
Fit the new wheel
Slide the Apollo onto the shaft, align the keyway, fit the washer and locking nut. Torque the nut to the helm manufacturer's specification (typically 25–35 Nm).
5
Test and finalise
Turn the wheel through full lock-to-lock travel — verify smooth operation and no binding. Press the centre cap with Osculati compass rose logo into place.
